Community Benefit

A very special thanks to the Luray and Page County communities for hosting this event!

Each year, in appreciation for the support of the local Luray and Page County communities in hosting the event, the triathlon donates a portion of the race proceeds to benefit the local Luray and Shenandoah Valley communities.

United Way of Page County logoThe United Way of Page County is the primary beneficiary of the Luray Triathlon. The United Way of Page County was selected because 100% of the funds raised by the local chapter go directly back into the community to benefit the United Way’s 10 non-profit community organizations that need it the most.  In addition, the United Way provides most of our volunteers on race weekend.

Here’s an example of how the Luray Triathlon has given back to the community:

  • The 2011 Triathlon donated nearly $11,000 to the United Way of Page County with an additional $8,000 going to other community organizations including: Luray Rescue, Shenandoah Volunteer Rescue Squad, Stanley Rescue, Relay for Life, Luray Downtown Initiative and Luray Parks & Recreation Department plus special donations of $1,000 for the Hawksbill Greenway Foundation and $1,000 to purchase a used boat for use by park staff at Lake Arrowhead.
  • The 2010 Triathlon donated more than $10,000 to the United Way of Page County with an additional $8,000 going to other community organizations including: Luray Downtown Initiative, Luray Volunteer Rescue, Shenandoah Volunteer Rescue Squad, Stanley Rescue, Relay for Life, and Luray Parks & Recreation Department.
  • The 2009 Triathlon donated more than $10,000 to the United Way of Page County with an additional $8,000 going to other community organizations including: Luray Downtown Initiative, Luray Volunteer Rescue, Shenandoah Volunteer Rescue Squad, Luray Christian Church, Luray Parks & Recreation Department, Luray Police Dept and the Page County Sheriff’s Office.
  • The 2008 Triathlon donated more than $8,000 to community organizations in addition to a special $1,000 donation to help fund a new skate park for kids in Luray.
  • The 2007 Triathlon raised more than $4,000 for Choices, Council on Domestic Violence for Page County, Inc. in addition to the above public service organizations.

Please consider making an extra donation at time of registration for the United Way of Page County to directly benefit the local community organizations that need the most support!
