The Luray Triathlon was founded in 2006 by long-time triathlete and coach David Glover after an extensive search for a new triathlon venue that was both scenic and challenging while being convenient to the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Ever since the inaugural race, the Luray and Page County communities have embraced the Luray Triathlon and its participants, making these triathlons the best community supported and most welcoming in the mid-Atlantic region.
Beginning with 460 athletes registered the first year with both races held on a single, the 2009 triathlon saw more than 1,200 athletes register for both Saturday and Sunday – a growth of 250%!
This year, we'll also introducing the first Shenandoah Valley Sprint Triathlon on Saturday, June 5th on the same great course as the Luray Sprint Triathlons.
