Here’s what some of our athletes have said about the Luray Triathlon…

“Great community race support throughout both the Sprint and International Luray Triathlons!  I enjoyed volunteering alongside  local community members during the International on Saturday, and truly enjoyed the volunteer support during the Sprint race on Sunday!”

“Fantastic Race.  The town provides more support for the race than most other communities.”

“Luray is one of my favorite race venues. The innagural race in 2006 was my first race ever and I have competed in each race since. Because of the hospitality of the town, the scenic beauty of the town, and the well-run race, I plan to return as long as the race exists. And for the same reasons just stated, I actively try to convince others to participate.”

“The race volunteers were so energetic and supportive that I am definitely coming back next year!”

“Beautiful community and race route.  Volunteers were super friendly and kind.”

“Had a blast!! What a great venue for a race!! The folks in Luray were fabulous and your team of volunteers were sooo nice and hard working. Loved it!!!”

“I wanted to take a moment and say thank you to you and the Town of Luray for being such wonderful hosts during the Luray Triathlon this weekend. I had the opportunity to travel from Maryland last weekend for a prep clinic, and again this weekend for the triathlon this weekend. My husband and I made a vacation out of it, taking our children to Luray Caverns on Friday. The kids loved the caverns, as well as the pasta dinner at the firehouse on Friday. We had dinner in town on Saturday, and once again had a wonderful time. The Town of Luray was nothing but hospitable, and it made the weekend so enjoyable for us. Lake Arrowhead is a beautiful venue, and the volunteers from the town were phenomenal during the race. Thank you for opening your town to so many people, and for being such wonderful hosts.”

“Thank you for organizing a fantastic event in Luray this past weekend! It was my first triathlon and was such a great experience. Everything went so smoothly and the course was beautiful (I must admit I was nervous about the bike before the race, but the course really was “rolling hills” and very manageable!)”

“On my drive home Saturday I was thinking about Luray compared to the two other triathalons I have done and though the sample size is small Luray was by far the most competitor friendly.  The small things were really noticed as I overheard from others and noticed myself.  Two things in particular stuck out to me …1) the water on the run course was still cold and plentiful for the people at the back of the field..this is usually not the case, and 2) it was the first time the announcer ever said my name as I finished…..The event really was not over until all the participants (at least within reason) were finished and there was not the rushed feeling that the organizers just wanted to get home after working hard to put on the event.”

“Just arrived home from competing in the Luray Olympic distance race.  I wanted to say how impressed I was with the organization of the event. Like you said in your preaward address — the town of Luray really steps up! First class all the way! I will continue to do this race…”

The event was efficient and well organized, staffed by plenty of helpful volunteers.” Attending your clinic eased my nerves, smoothed transitions, and made for a shorter swim (sighting those buoys kept me straight).”

“Liked the band and food ops at the finish. Great venue and easy parking. Enjoyed the race weekend concept and how the whole town got behind it. Very well organized and felt very safe on the bike and run courses.”

“I just wanted to say thanks for a great race day! Thanks for helping me believe that I could do it and for being so encouraging.”

“This was a good race. I really liked the bike course. It was a nice atmosphere too. They had a live band afterward, which was neat.”

“I have to give props to Team FeXY and Team Z, getting up that last hill on the bike was brutal and those horns were hilarious. Also, the support from the aid stations on the run was great (thanks BT’rs). David G. put on a well organized race, hopefully next year I can do it a little better trained on the bike.”

“Excellent event – you guys rock – everything is smooth, results posted a day earlier!”

“It was a great day and a great race. Organization was A+.”

“Thanks for the great triathlon. I definitely enjoyed the entire thing.”

“That was one one of the most welcoming towns I have been to at a Triathlon. The Top three overall received the best prize package of any triathlon I have done. Thanks!!”

“This was a really tough course; definitely the most challenging that I have done so far. But it was a lot of fun and very well run. The scenery in Luray is absolutely beautiful.  I loved that they had a live band afterward.”

“Volunteers at most triathlons I’ve done are almost always positive and helpful, but the volunteers at Luray really deserve a special thank you for their extraordinary friendliness and hard work. They were really a gem in what turned out to be an amazingly well run inaugural race.”

“Race volunteers were extremely friendly, and the bike and run courses were very nice. I will definitely do this race again next year.”

“Overall a good race. David Glover, the RD, does a really good job, the course is pretty, the giveaways are solid and the food is wonderful. They even have PBJ!”

“This was not only my first triathlon, but my first race of any kind. The course was awesome and the weather was perfect. I had an absolute blast and can’t wait for my next race.”

“The clinic the week before was really good, too. It was nice to be able to go over the course with no pressure and I found it to be a real confidence builder. It was fun to meet other beginners, talk about different experiences, and share the camaraderie.”

“All in all a great race that I will make it a staple in years to come. There was great food and camaraderie to be had. The weather couldn’t have been better and it was truly great race and day to be had by all.”

“The scenery was just beautiful and the weather was perfect. Some nice little red birds were singing as the warm sunny shine was rising….. euh all right, back to the race report.”

“Just wanted to send along a great job to all those folks involved with the Luray events. I did the Saturday race and it was terrific. As a racer I appreciate the time and effort your team puts into putting on these great events for us all!”
