For athletes wanting to skip the run part of the triathlon but still compete for an award, you can now sign up for the Aquabike division in both the Luray International and Luray Sprint races.

What is the Aquabike division?

You do the same swim and bike courses as the full triathlon but then you’re done after the bike.

How does Aquabike work?

• When you sign up for either the Luray International or Luray Sprint on the Virginia Triathlon Series website, you’ll choose “Aquabike” as your race category.
• The Aquabike will start in the last wave with the relays.
• Your time officially ends when your cross the timing mats going into T2.
• Once you enter T2, you’ll bring your timing chip to the finishline.

Will there be awards for Aquabike?

Absolutely.  We’ll do top 3 overall M & F for the Aquabike division.

Geared toward beginner and novice triathletes, the clinics on August 11th are designed to help you prepare for the Luray Triathlons as well as other short course triathlons with open water swims.

The full clinic includes course discussion; a lifeguard supervised open water practice swim in pristine Lake Arrowhead; and a chance to ride and run the scenic bike and run courses. There is also an option for the swim only portion of the clinic.

Presented by top coaches, athletes and  experts, the clinics will provide you with knowledge and expertise to put you on the fast track towards accomplishing your triathlon goals.

• Full clinic: 8 AM to 1 PM
• Swim only clinic: 8 AM to 10:30 AM

About the Clinics

For the open water swim portion, our expert coaches will be there to talk briefly about open water swimming and give tips for success, but most of all the practice is an opportunity for YOU as the athlete to get in open water in a safe, lifeguarded, stress free, non-competitive environment that will bolster your confidence come race morning. Course will be marked with buoys and you are welcome to swim multiple laps of the course within the allotted time frame. Please note that this is not an individual stroke clinic.

For the bike and run portions of the full clinic, coaches will discuss biking and running then give you the opportunity to practice on the Luray Triathlon course in a non-competitive environment. Finally, the full clinic wraps up with a discussion and examples of transition area. Lunch is included with the full clinic.

Every generation of Patty Sevre’s family has been engraving glass since the 1740′s. She creates these beautiful works of art using the time honored methods of revolving stones, copper wheels, and cooling water handed down through the generations. Every aspect of her work is freehand and shows the quality her keen eyes, sure hands, and 50 years of experience bring to a very old skill.

In her own words:

Over the last 50 years, I have  cut special orders for Tiffany & Co., Shreve Crump & Low, Boston, Ma. And  many Gift stores all over these United States and did consultant work teaching the fine art of glass cutting and designed the lathe for turning the wheels. Now I hand carve people’s portraits in glass, awards, corporate gifts, logos and any kind of art work  because crystal is my canvas. I enjoy it not because of  just the art but for the history of it, and about my family.
