Set in the scenic Shenandoah Valley near the friendly town of Luray, Virginia, the Luray Triathlon and Luray Duathlon offers a fun-filled, challenging multisport weekend. Luray Triathlon and Duathlon is known for it’s tremendous course support, being professionally organized, and it’s gorgeous setting. With several events to choose from, there is something for every multisport athlete, from beginner-friendly to something for the more experienced triathlete. This will be the 14th year for the Luray Triathlon and the second year for the Luray Duathlon.

On Saturday, August 17, 2019, athletes can choose from the Luray International Triathlon or the Luray International Duathlon. The Olympic distance International Triathlon is a 1500 meter swim, followed by a 41K bike, and ending with a 10K run. The International Duathlon is a 1.7 mile trail run, followed by a 41K bike, and ending with a 10K run. For those not interested in the run portion, there is an international distance Aquabike with a 1500 meter swim followed by a 41k bike.

On Sunday, August 18, 2019, is where the beginner-friendly events will take place. Athletes can choose from the Luray Sprint Triathlon or the Luray Sprint Duathlon. The Sprint Triathlon is a 750 meter swim, followed by a 27K bike, and ending with a 5K run. The Sprint Duathlon is a 1.1 mile trail run, followed by a 27K bike, and ending with a 5K run. For those not interested in the run portion, there is a sprint distance Aquabike with a 750 meter swim followed by a 27k bike.

If the athlete is really looking for a challenge they can compete in both days of the triathlon or both days of the duathlon and become a “Hawksbill Double” finisher and receive an additional award.

All events will offer relay categories.

Athletes will receive a custom finisher medal, super soft tri-blend race shirt, custom logoed ice towel, custom race bib, bike and helmet number stickers, free post-race food, and more! PLUS NEW this year free custom socks!! You can choose from blue or green, sizes small or large. There will be a professional race photographer on both days of the event and we are excited to announce that the race photos will all be FREE again this year!

USAT Championships

The Luray International Triathlon will host the USAT Virginia Age Group State Championships. There are no pre-qualifications needed to be a part of this Championship. The top 25% finishers in each age group at the Luray International Triathlon will qualify for Nationals (by comparison, other USAT sanctioned races only qualify the top 10%).

The Luray Sprint Triathlon will host the USAT Virginia High School Triathlon State Championships. There are no pre-qualifications needed to be a part of this ChampionshipAll High School athletes will receive a deeply discounted entry, additional awards, special swag, their own swim wave, and access to a VIP table at packet pickup to avoid lines.

The races will be professionally chip timed by Racine Timing providing instant live results, viewable in real time, online and at kiosk stations at the events.

The race is owned and organized by Racine Multisports in partnership with the Town of Luray, Page CountyUnited Way of Nothern Shenandoah Valley, and the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce.

The town of Luray really opens their doors to visitors in town for the Triathlon making athletes feel welcomed and adding to the overall experience of race weekend.
