Luray International Duathlon, an olympic distance, will debut on Saturday, August 18, 2018 alongside the 13th annual Luray International Triathlon. Followed by the Luray Sprint Duathlon debuting on Sunday, August 19, 2018 alongside the 13th annual Luray Sprint Triathlon. The bike and the final run legs of the duathlon are on the same bike and run legs as the Triathlon. We will be running the Triathlon and Duathlon together so that duathletes and triathletes will be on the course at the same time. We will use different color bibs to delineate between duathletes and triathletes.
Race director Ken Racine stated, “We’ve gotten feedback from duathletes that they would love to come to Luray. We have been hesitant to allow that until we came up with a solid plan to handle the logistics so the addition of a duathlon in no way interrupts the success of the Triathlon. We are excited about the run course we developed for leg one of the duathlon that will stay in the park and not interfere with the Triathlon flow. As a result, the first leg of the Duathlon will be a trail run that will navigate around the lake. The trail is not considered difficult, but there is a section of single track that athletes will have to position themselves strategically. Spectators will enjoy watching the entire first leg of the Duathlon, while also viewing the swim portion of the Triathlon.”
Included with race entry, Duathletes will get equal swag as Triathletes. This including, but not limited to a custom tri-blend race shirt, custom finisher medal, custom strap bag, race logoed water bottle, custom finisher logoed ice towel and more.
